Although it sounds crazy, real Canon batteries for the new 5D MARK II camera are scarcer than hen’s teeth right now, at best you have to get on a waiting list and hope you win the battery lottery. So I started looking around for alternatives, and indeed there are several out there. This kit from Sakar, which I bought for $30, replaces $320 of Canon hardware–battery, AC charger, DC charger, and it all works almost exactly as advertised!
There are 4 limitations I have found–1) The camera can not read the charge level of the battery, so there is no way to know how much power is left in the battery, 2) Inexplicably, when operating the camera from a computer and taking time exposures >30 seconds, the timer that tells you how long the shutter is open does not work, 3) It takes longer to charge than the Canon battery (~30% longer) and 4) You can not charge it in the Canon charger (but you can charge the Canon battery in the Sakur charger). So you have to have a Sakur charger to carry around, with or in lieu of the Canon charger
The battery is rated as MORE powerful than the Canon battery, I can’t comment on that, but it does seem to last a good long time, just like the real Canon version (hundreds and hundreds of photos even with IS lenses). The car charger works fine, although it is slowish, but I have not used the Canon version so have little basis for comparison.
Overall it is one heck of a deal for a backup battery and charging system, subject to the limitations described above. Canon is really gouging it’s customers for accessories on the 5DM2 camera including batteries and chargers, I would recommend just getting this kit instead. Also, as an aside, if everyone did this it would send a message to Canon management that they need to hear.

- it is an excellent battery. The canon replacement is absurdly overpriced. You could buy three of these guys for one of canon’s. Its only caveat is that it doesnt have the chip that connects to the camera to display the shots that you have left. For this reason, I shoot with two of these and leave my canon battery as the backup. Ive yet to do any direct comparisons with the two batteries to test life/longevity, though these seem to have a little less life than canon’s, they work just fine. Buy with confidence!

Takes longer to charge, thin charging equipment, but works in pinch. Bought two. Can only charge this brand’s batteries.
