I was warned about buying a lens with such a long zoom range because they are often a compromise in image quality. Not this lens. The clarity and sharpness is amazing. The zoom range is perfect for a walk-around lens. I have used it for landscapes, portraits, street photography and even telephoto shots of wildlife. The minimum focusing distance and 1:3.3 magnification make it a decent macro zoom and great for shooting flowers and other subjects close-up. This lens is on my camera 90% of the time. The only thing that would be better is if it had a constant f/2.8 aperture but then you wouldn’t be able to get it at this price.

I bought this lens because of some favorable comments I read on a few photo sites. I purchased a Sony A850 but did not want to spend almost 2K for the Zeiss 24-70. I liked the idea of the focal range and felt it would be a good starter lens. I have been surprised at the quality of the images coming out of this lens. It is the best bargain for full frame.
